Who's Who at Osth Family Farm

Kate and Allie as we first met them in Tennessess in summer 2009

Draft Horses Allie & Kate

We added Kate and Allie to our farm workforce the summer of 2009. We found this matched Percheron pair in Tennessee and drove over in June '09 to get these ten year old cousins. We were looking for horses that knew what to do more than we did since we didn't know much about horse farming. These girls do just that. Right now, we use them primarily for getting the ground ready for planting and general chores around the farm, although last year Johan used the pair to cut and haul hay. It has been such a wonderful learning experience working with these powerful animals.

Ida Red

We said good-bye to our very old Ida Red.  Ida was the 25 year old quarter horse Johan once used while working on a ranch in west Texas after his graduation from Texas A&M. We'll remember him fondly as a wonderful kid horse and excellent cow horse. Happy Trails, Ida.

Taffy

Taffy is our three year old three quarter Jersy milker. She builds a nice big bag and gives us enough milk for her own calf and and almost a gallon a day for us.

Daisy

Daisy is Taffy's baby born in Oct 2009. We artificially inseminated (AI) Taffy with full blood Jersey semen so Daisy is almost full Jersey. She was bottle fed by us using Taffy's milk, so she has a sweet disposition and is very approachable.

Charlie and Ernest

Charlie and Ernest serve as guardian dogs to the goats. They generally follow the herd around and "patrol the permimeter." At one time we had coyotes taking our goats, but when we got the Gream Pyranese dogs, we not longer had that problem.

Keep checking in...we'll be adding more!
