Members of the Family
Johan Osth

Originally from Guatemala City, Guatemala, Johan moved to Texas when he was ten. Johan graduated from Texas A&M '92 with a Construction Science degree. He has since received his Texas Teaching Certification and has taught all ages of elementary children. He currently teaches 3-5 ESL enrichment at Madisonville Intermediate School.

Johan worked at a few ranches and a tree farm during his college years, and now enjoys coming home to his own farm. Regarding farm life, Johan's favorite animals are the draft mares, Kate and Allie, and he likes drinking milk fresh from the cow.

Joan Osth

Born in Massachussetts, Joan and her family moved to Houston, Texas when she was seven. A graduate of Texas A&M '93 with a Journalism/History Liberal Arts degree, Joan previously worked at Texas A&M University Press in the marketing department. She has always enjoyed growing food. Some of her favorite memories are of helping her Dad in the garden or making a fresh salad with Mom from the lettuce brought in from the backyard. Her hope is that by sharing the farm experience other folks feel encouraged to grow their own food.

Joan writes, photographs, and designs the enewsletter for Osth Family Farm, plus manages the soap making and vegetable planting. When she's not working on family and farm stuff, Joan is a freelance book designer and volunteers with Restoration Community Gardens and Friends of the Madison County Library.
